Lantern Entertainment, LLC is an American independent film studio. It was formed by Lantern Capital Partners in July 2018.

MY ROLE
Being part in the creative process of a studio identity is always fun. The exposure of the final product and the amount of detail in the creation, makes it one of the most exciting disciplines in motion design. I was contacted by Antenna Creative as designer and art director to explore concept ideas for the lantern identity. Over the course of 3 days I put together 5 visual concepts with research, write ups and rough design/ref-boards. Two ideas were picked by the client and further developed as design boards.

GOALS
I tried to base the ideas on formal elements of cinematography: light and form as building-blocks for narrative. The goal was to show how the light of the lantern reveals locations and takes you on a journey into different worlds. A metaphorical glimpse of a studio making movies.
PROCESS
Aside from a basic competitive research I started with thumbnails. That helped to organize my initial thoughts and ideas and forced me to put them into a sequence.  After that I puzzled my image research into mood boards and designed the final logo frames for each. From there I made write ups to describe more in detail what will happen.
PITCH 1
Through the RGB additive color model we explore the art and physics of filmmaking. We dive into a light flooded room and get blinded by a backlit crystal wall. The light splits into its spectrum and rainbow-like flares move towards us. While the light source dims down, we recognize the logo.
PITCH 2
Movies work as windows and let us see into different worlds. In this concept we use the logo shape as a portal which allows us to transition between locations. We start on a foggy landscape, where clouds move gently over the mountain peaks. The camera pulls back through a gate which illuminates a new mysterious landscape. As we move all the way out, we recognize the logo shape which stands like a huge lantern, lighting up the landscape.
